The Sun and The Moon

There once lived two lovers, Apollo and Callisto, they lived in a far away land beyond the river or astral stars and the Milky Way. They met once a day in a field and spent time with each other. They sang songs, and partied most of the day. “Callisto, my dear, how lovely you look today.” “Why thank you my love, it is only for you I look good today.” She giggled and smiled at him. “Why just today? You look beautiful everyday.” He nodded at her and kissed her hand softly.
What the lovers didn’t know was that Hermes was assigned to spy on them from afar. He observed them silently watching their every move as his sandals flapped their tiny wings, holding up the messenger’s body weight. “I must not let myself be discovered.” He said to himself, hiding further in the bushes.
“Where would you like to go now love?” He asked Callisto as he looked at her with quite a smile. “Wherever you take me is fine, as long as I am with you.” She smiled and kissed his cheek. “Let’s go to the waterfall and bask in the waters.” He suggested to her with a smile. “Let’s.” she smiled and pulled him towards the waterfalls.
Meanwhile Hermes flew back to Lycaon (who was Callisto’s father.) “Sir, your daughter ran off with Apollo again.” He reported “They are headed to the waterfalls.” He said. Lycaon thought for a moment. “Bring him to me and I shall send him away for a few days, when he returns, I shall turn him into the Sun.” He nodded to Hermes and set him free to bring Apollo to him.
“Apollo! Apollo!” Hermes shouted coming closer to the two. “Lycaon wants to speak with you privately.” He said. “Thank you Hermes, I shall be there right away,” said Apollo as he got out of the water, standing up.
He walked towards the castle, as he saw Lycaon. “Did you want to see me sir?” “Yes indeed, I wanted to speak with you.” “What about sir?” he asked “Hades is having problems down below, and he needs someone to help him out, the journey will take a few weeks.” “But…why me?” He asked, bewildered. “You are perfect for the job that he has.” “Alright sir, I shall descend to the Underworld.” He said as he nodded and began to walk out. When he was out of sight Hermes appeared “Do you think your plan would work sir?” “I have no doubt of it.”
He walked back, looking for Callisto. “How did it go?” She asked him, tipping her head to the side curiously. “He sent me away; he told me Hades needed my help with some sort of problem.” He replied, still a bit confused on why he was chosen upon anyone else. “Well, maybe he thinks you can handle it better then anyone else, how long shall you be gone for?” she asked. “About three weeks dear.” He nodded to her, looking at her;” “Oh, but I shall miss you!” She looked at him sadly. “I shall try to be back as early as possible,” he said nodding and kissing her hand. She smiled softly “I beg you, be careful love.” “I shall dear, I promise.” He said to her and nodded “Until we see each other again, my love.” He smiled at her and left for is journey.
Apollo finally arrived after three weeks, he walked straight towards Hades. Hades looked up at him, and then after a long pause said, “What are you doing here?” “Did you not ask Lycaon for my help?” “Not at all…” He replied a bit surprised. “How…strange,” said Apollo. Not suspecting anything
After a few hours of dilly-dally Apollo began walking back up to the surface. Making his journey back to Lycaon’s castle. After a few weeks he finally came back to the surface. “Lycaon! You lied to me!” he shouted. “Indeed, I lied to you, you have no right being with my daughter, nor should you be allowed to see her, he said. As he lifted his hand swiftly, lightning surrounded his hand and began to circle around it. Apollo backed up a bit, unsure if he is going to kill him or turn him into something. “May I become the sun of the earth and you shall become damned Lycaon,” he uttered angrily.
“As you wish Apollo!” he shouted as he indeed turned him into the sun. “Father no!” yelled Callisto as she witnessed the happening. “May I become the moon that guides the brightly lit Sun.” She said turning herself into the moon.
‘Til this day we remember the two lovers. They continue their search for one another, yet they can never be together.
