It was an evening in which Ameline was home alone. She was reading a letter from her brother who lived far away. She heard something all of a sudden then turned her head; there was not a soul present. She looked at the mirror and saw nothing there. She put the letter down and walked closer, examining the mirror carefully. A hand popped out of the mirror, it was a gloved hand of a man or so it seamed, the glove was white as snow and he waited for Ameline to give him her hand. Ameline hesitated at first but took the man’s hand. Immediately, she was transported into another dimension.
A strange place it was. She looked around. The man stood still, he was tall, very skinny, he had long white hair, and his face was covered with a white porcelain mask. He wore a dress suit a cape and black leather boots, he was dressed in black from head to foot. “Who are you?” Asked Ameline a bit startled by the mans appearance. “I am what you call Guilt.” He spoke with a toneless voice “You must come with me now.” Said guilt, offering her his gloved hand. Ameline took his hand and followed him, not speaking a word more.
Ameline looked around the man took her to a strange place, it seamed as if they were walking in space, for there were no floors, walls or even a ceiling. She started noticing a figure following them. “What…who is that guilt?” “That?” he said “That is the Harlequin, he means no harm.” His voice still toneless. “Where are you taking me?” She asked terrified. “No where, were no one will harm you.” He said. She gulped and followed him with no more questionings. They walked and walked until they got to a huge table that stretched to infinity.
Four people were sitting at the table. A woman, a child, and another man (sadness) and then the harlequin. “You finally came guilt, and you have brought the girl.” The woman’s voice echoed throughout the space. That made Ameline gasp. Guilt sat behind the table “She’s here as you ordered me to bring her.” Said guilt, his servant laid at his feet, wanting to be caressed. Ameline was shocked. The woman spoke again “Child.” Her voice echoed “Do you know why you are here?!” you are here…you are here... “No me’ am.” She answered frightened nearly to death. “She is mad!” said the harlequin and the child repeated “Mad, mad, mad” Ameline let out an excruciating scream. “There there Ameline.” Said sadness. “We are all mad here.” Said the Phantom. Judgments voice echoed “Mad, mad, mad, mad, mad, mad, mad…” Ameline Opened her eyes and looked around, she found herself in her home, but she thought it was another dream, she looked at the dark street, she could not take it any longer, she rushed through the window and fell to her death, and the voices kept following her into her deadly waltz. “It was all in her mind.” Said guilt so coolly.
